John Albert Davis, 87, of Emmitsburg died peacefully Thursday, May 12 at his home. Born August 21, 1923 in Rogersville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late John Blevins and Ida Larmer Davis.
He Moved to Emmitsburg with his family from Tennessee in 1947. He was a life-long farmer in the Emmitsburg area, taking over the responsibilities of managing the family farm at age 14 when his father died. He raised dairy cows and Angus beef cattle during his farming days. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He is survived by sisters Bernice Gibbs and Eileen Davis of Baltimore; nieces Donna Gibbs of Denver, Colorado, and Peggy Teague and husband Tim of Forest Hill; and nephews Thomas Gibbs of Baltimore, and Jackie Davis and wife Karen of Thurmont. He was predeceased by sisters Norma & Mary June Davis and brother, Jack Davis.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2011 at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 West Main St., Emmitsburg, Maryland with the Rev. Jon R. Greenstone officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick. The family will receive friends Sunday, May 15 from 3-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
