John E. Cullison Sr., 81, of Fairfield, PA died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at his home. Born March 4, 1932 in Gettysburg, he was the son of the late Harvey and Laura Wienbrenner Cullison. He was the husband of Etta “Kate” Davis Cullison, his wife of more than 57 years.
John was a veteran of the Korean War, serving four years in the United States Army where he attained the rank of Sergeant. He was employed by ISP Minerals for 39 years. He was a life-long member of Gettysburg VFW, the AMVETS of Fairfield, PA, the Loyal Order of the Moose in Gettysburg, the Emmitsburg Knights of Columbus, the Catholic War Veterans of Bonneauville, PA, the Emmitsburg American Legion Post 121, and the Blue Ridge Sportsman’s Club. He enjoyed playing guitar, listening to blue grass and country music, watching WWF wrestling, and attending car shows. He also enjoyed auto restoration, his favorite being his ‘57 Chevy. He loved his family and enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play. He will be dearly missed and forever in the hearts of his family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife are children, John Cullison, Jr. of Cashtown, Tese Fissel and husband Rob of Orrtanna, Dave Cullison and wife Linn of Chambersburg, Karen Browning and husband Robert of Hepzibah, GA, Janet Long of Hepzibah, GA, Laura Bowen and husband Mitch of Orrtanna, Michael Cullison of Orrtanna, and Stacey Miller and fiancé Bryant Pfaff of Waynesboro; sisters, Genevieve Utz and husband Nelson of Hanover, Margaret Sprankle and husband Dave of Biglerville, and Katherine Pottorff and husband Gene of Gettysburg; brothers, Bill Cullison and wife Terry of Gettysburg, and Donald Cullison and wife Sharon of Fairfield; 28 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by daughter Linda Cullison; brothers, Charles and Clare Cullison; and son-in-law Ernest Long.
A funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, July 12 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD with the Rev. Dale Welty officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home on Friday. Inurnment will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 15 at New St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
