John Anthony Cillo, age 53, of Emmitsburg, Maryland, died suddenly along with his wife, as a result of being struck by an automobile while leaving Mass at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Emmitsburg on Sunday, August 8, 2010.
Born February 23, 1957 in Queens Village, New York, he was the son of the late Anthony and Isabella (Montaurli) Cillo. He was the loving husband of 22 years to the late Patricia (DeRosa) Mauro Cillo, who died on Sunday, August 8, 2010 in Emmitsburg.
He attended Mass at both St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Blue Ridge Summit, PA, and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Emmitsburg. John was the founder/director of Mount Media Communications and helped found the Seminarians-In-Need Fund at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg. He served as director of finance for St. Rita’s Catholic Parish, and was a volunteer with the local Boy Scouts in Emmitsburg.
Surviving are step-children, Christine Harmanoglu and husband Ali of Hollywood, Fl., and Richard Mauro and wife Alison of Jacksonville, Fl.; grandsons, Nick, Max, Luke, Joshua, and Jacob; brother, Steven Cillo and wife Corrine of Oakland Gardens, N.Y., and a sister, Linda Suppa and husband Dominic of Westbury, N.Y.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for both him and his wife, at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, August 13, 2010 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 47 DePaul St., Emmitsburg with the Rev. Vincent J. O’Malley, C.M. as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery in Emmitsburg. The family will receive friends on both Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 West Main St., Emmitsburg, MD, where Rosary prayers will begin at 8 p.m. on Thursday.
