John Byrne

January 28, 1935 — December 25, 2017

John Bernard Byrne, 82, of Fayetteville, PA died peacefully at his home on Christmas Day surrounded by his loving family.  Born January 28, 1935 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John Bernard and Mary Alice (Lee) Byrne, Sr.  He was the devoted husband of Sara (Keating) Byrne, to whom he was married for nearly 55 years.

John was an Installation Force Manager for the phone company.  His career with C&P Telephone, AT&T and Bell Atlantic spanned more than 35 years.  He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served in Germany during the Korean War.  He enjoyed traveling and working on projects around his home, but his passion was playing golf.  During his younger years he was a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and the Woodlawn Volunteer Fire Department, where he attained the rank of Lieutenant.

Surviving, in addition to his beloved wife Sara, are daughters, Erin Applegate and husband Nick of Crossroads, PA, Stacy Bricca and husband Gregg of Finksburg, MD, and Barbara Byrne of Miami, FL; grandchildren, Kelsey, Alex, Will and Emily; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was predeceased by sisters, Mary Lee Chollet and Catherine Salfner.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 29, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 47 DePaul St., Emmitsburg, MD, 21727 with the Rev. Charles F. Krieg, C.M. as celebrant.  Interment will follow at New St. Joseph Cemetery.  The family will receive friends prior to the Mass from 9-10:30 a.m. on Friday at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church at the above address.
