John L. Alexander, Sr

John Louis Alexander, Sr., age 78, of Taneytown, Maryland, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at the Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster.

Born July 27, 1930 in Frederick, Maryland he was the son of the late Franklin P. and Marion (Wilhide) Alexander. He was the loving husband of Dorothy L. (Sipes) Alexander, his wife of 59 years.

Mr. Alexander was employed by Shipley Transfer for many years and later owned and operated Key Ladder Company of Keysville.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Taneytown, a life member of the Taneytown Fire Company and the Loyal Order of The Moose and was a former President of the North Carroll Gun Club.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Jack L. Alexander and his wife Joan of Ocean Pines, MD and John L. Alexander, Jr. and his wife Marylee of Littlestown, PA, three grandchildren, Lauren Pennington, Brandon and Daniel Alexander and one great-grandson Collin. He is also survived by a sister, Alice Unger of Taneytown, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Wilbur Alexander.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M, on Saturday June 13, 2009 at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 East Baltimore Street, Taneytown, with interim Pastor Charles E. Frederick officiating. Interment will follow in Keysville Union Cemetery in Keysville. The family will receive friends Friday, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Funeral Home, where a Taneytown Fire Company Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 P.M with Chaplain Charles E. Barnhart Jr. officiating.
