Joe Bankard

George Edward “Joe” Bankard, Jr., 73, of Finksburg, MD, died on Monday, July 12, 2021 at Johns-Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.  Born January 4, 1948 in Uniontown, MD, he was the son of the late Jessie Stine, and step-son of the late Jesse Stine.  He was the husband of Mary Jane (Slorp) Bankard, his wife of 52 years.

Joe was a truck and auto mechanic and worked for many years at Crossroads Truck and Auto in Finksburg.  He enjoyed hunting, watching westerns, going to car shows and auctions, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving, in addition to his wife Mary, are daughters, Wanda Fackler and husband Daniel of Taneytown, and Thresa Schultz and husband Richard of Winston-Salem, NC; sisters, Martha Rill and husband Charles of Manchester, Frances Lewis and husband Don of Plant City, FL, and Thelma Fernandez and husband Michael of FL; grandchildren, Jessica Haupt and husband Nicholas of Manchester, Robert Dale Smith of Finksburg, Cheyenne Smith of Waynesboro, PA, and Gabriel Pauley of Winston-Salem, NC; great-grandchildren, Bentley, Raelynn, and Warren; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Ward, his biological father, George Edward Bankard, Sr. and his step-mother Mary Elizabeth (Yingling) Bankard.

A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 16, 2021 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster, MD.  The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
