Joan M. Payne, age 51, of Detour, Maryland, died on Friday, December 5, 2008 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, MD.
Born July 10, 1957 in Mt. Airy, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Sterling E. and Naomi (Elderidge) Stultz. She is survived by her husband of 3 years, Louis W. Payne.
Joan was a 1975 graduate of Francis Scott Key High School, in Union Bridge. Joan worked for the U.S. Army Postal Service in both Europe and at Ft. Detrick in Frederick. For many years she worked as a nurse at numerous nursing facilities, and later was a deli clerk at Trouts Market in Woodsboro, and a bookkeeper for her and her husband’s business “Blue Ridge Decorators”. Joan loved everything with the outdoors, including camping, gardening, crabbing on the Chesapeak Bay, and watching her fish and birds. She also loved all kinds of music, and collected Teddy Bears and Owls.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are children and spouses, Bobbi Jo Leister Silver and husband Matthew of Lexington, Kentucky, Christina Marie Leister Kelley and husband David of New Oxford, PA; a step-son, Ryan Lee Payne of Detour, MD; grandchildren, Elisabeth Clair Silver, Jacob Preston Silver, Mikayla Marie Stockman, and Brenton Elijay Kelley; siblings, David L. Stultz, Barbara E. Miller, Marion S. Hunt, Phillip E. Stultz, Wilbur L. Stultz, Janet E. Kern, Timmy Stultz, and Steve Stultz.
Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by siblings, James Stultz, and Daris Ann Stultz.
A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, with the Rev. Glenn Morman officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the funeral home.
