Joan R. Hartman, age 73, of Taneytown, Maryland, died on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at the Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster, Maryland.
Born September 13, 1937 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Howard H. and Louise M. (Kraus) Hubbard. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Raymond J. Hartman, Jr.
Joan spent her childhood in Crisfield, Maryland and moved to Baltimore, Maryland in 1950. She graduated from Western High School in 1955 and attended Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland for two years. Later she graduated from Bard Avon Business School in Baltimore. Prior to her marriage in 1960, she was employed as a bookkeeper at the Hubbard Insurance Agency and as a secretary/bookkeeper at Hubbard Funeral Home for three years. She and her husband resided in Catonsville for 40 years and in 2005 moved to their present home in Carroll Vista, an adult community in Taneytown, Maryland. They enjoyed traveling to visit children and grandchildren out of state. Joan was a member of Taneytown Baptist Church and enjoyed reading, Bible study, and spending time with grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to her husband are daughters, Karen Jensen of Fort Collins, Colorado and Gail Pafford of Duluth, Georgia; a son, Paul J. Hartman of Westminster, Maryland. Also surviving are grandchildren, Joshua, Natalie, Sarah, and Christopher Franklin, Micah Pafford, Ozzy Gulbranson, and Mark, Seth, and Katy Hartman; and a sister, Patricia Fleegle of Fla.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 18, 2011 at the Taneytown Baptist Church with her pastor the Rev. Gary F. Buchman officiating. Entombment will be held privately on Tuesday at Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge, Maryland. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, Maryland.
