Joan Louise Garber, age 69, of Westminster, Maryland, died on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at her home.
Born March 21, 1940 in Oak Orchard, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Z. and Dorothy L. (Devilbiss) Garber.
Joan graduated from New Windsor High School in 1958. Upon completing high school she went to Washington D.C. and worked with the Department of the Navy. She then worked for the Defense Logistics Agency in Alexandria, Virginia, where she retired from the Federal government in 1995. After retiring she moved from Annandale, Virginia to her current home in Westminster. She was an avid Washington Redskins fan, and loved to cook, garden, shop, collect dolls and jewelry. Joan was a member of the Westminster Moose.
Surviving are a daughter, Dawn Marie Garber of Westminster; brothers, Ralph Garber and wife Ann Marie of Gettysburg, Pa, Richard Garber and wife Mary of Union Bridge, William Garber and wife Caroline of New Windsor, and Gary Garber and wife Peggy of New Windsor; sisters, Dolores Frounfelter and husband Charles of McKinstry Mill, Elizabeth Dell of Finksburg, Carolyn Miller of Taneytown, and Fay Minnick of Westminster; sister-in-law, Betty Garber of Union Bridge; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Maurice Garber.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster, with the Rev. Anne C. Durboraw officiating. Interment will follow in Pipe Creek Cemetery in Union Bridge. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 3-5 and 7-9 PM and on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
