Joan F. (Gelwicks) Elower

Joan Francis Elower (Gelwicks), age 68, of Emmitsburg, MD, died Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at home. Born January 26, 1955, she was the daughter of the late Earle Robert and Donaldine Elizabeth (Hann) Gelwicks. She was the wife of the late Donald Wayne Elower.

Joan was an animal lover and leaves behind her loving dog Tia. She loved to cook and bake for family and friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.

Surviving are son, David Gelwicks and wife Michelle of Thurmont, MD; stepson, Donald Elower and wife Christine of NJ; sister, Mary Anne Baker of Finksburg, MD; brothers, Joseph Gelwicks and wife Sandra of Emmitsburg, MD, and James Gelwicks and wife Teresa of Fairfield, PA; a grandson, David Gelwicks Jr; and many nieces, nephews and close friends. Joan was predeceased by her parents, Earle and Donaldine Gelwicks; husband, Donald Elower; brothers, Robert, John and Mark Gelwicks; sisters, Donaldine Singley and Margaret Ridenour.

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 7, 2023, at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, P.A., 210 W. Main Street, Emmitsburg, MD 21727 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 47 Depaul Street, Emmitsburg, MD 21727 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Alberto Barattero IVE officiating. Burial will follow at New St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
