Joan Lois DaRoja

Joan Lois DaRoja, 92, of Chesterfield, Virginia, and formerly of Taneytown, Maryland, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on February 19, 1933, in Paterson, New Jersey, Joan was the daughter of Robert F. Argott and Mae F. Samson. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, William A. DaRoja, Jr., and their cherished son, Scott R. DaRoja, grandson, Noel DaRoja and great-great granddaughter Aleiah Joan DaRoja-Frisby.

Joan found her greatest joy in spending time with her family. She had a passion for quilting, knitting, and traveling, loved cheering on her beloved Baltimore Orioles and Pittsburgh Steelers, and was a voracious reader.

Outgoing and a friend to everyone she met, Joan had a deep love for people—especially children—and was known for her warm, welcoming spirit. Her kindness, curiosity, and quiet strength touched the hearts of everyone who knew her.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Donna J. DaRoja-Priet, William A. DaRoja III, Darlene G. DaRoja, Dawn M. Taybron, and Jodi A. DaRoja-Jeffress; as well as her treasured grandchildren (23) great-grandchildren (37), and great-great-grandchildren (14).

The family will receive friends, 6-8 p.m., Thursday, April 10, 2025 at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 136 E. Baltimore Street, Taneytown, 21787. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Friday, April 11, 2025 at Messiah United Methodist Church, 20 Middle Street, Taneytown . Reverend Richard Baker officiating.
