Jeffrey Lewis Watkins, 67, of Taneytown, died unexpectedly on Thursday, August 19, 2021 in Emmitsburg. Born November 13, 1953 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Lewis) Watkins.
Jeff was a graduate of the University of Maryland, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He was the Club Manager at several area clubs for many years, including the Capital Hill Club in Washington, D.C. He loved his family, and especially being grandfather “Poppy” to Marissa. He was the primary caregiver for his parents during their final years. His cat Chico and his yellow Lab, Abbey, were the primary recipients of his love of animals.
Jeff enjoyed watching horse racing and listening to music. Dylan and Cash were among his favorite artists. He was a proud Eagle Scout. He was an avid investor and fan of Washington sports teams. He was a positive, optimistic, and charismatic person; a romantic who exuded confidence and charm. He was a very intelligent man with an appreciation for history, philosophy, and Shakespeare.
Surviving are his children, Jessica Watkins and husband Frederick Wells of Selbyville, DE, Jeffrey Watkins and wife Crystal of Salisbury, MD, and Ashley Watkins of Frankford, DE; sister, Jennifer Clinger and husband Stephen of Ellicott City, MD; brother, Charles Watkins and wife Karen of Damascus, MD; granddaughter, Marissa Watkins, of Frankford, DE; and 5 nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 2-3 p.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD. Inurnment will follow at Tom’s Creek Community Cemetery near Emmitsburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jeff’s name to the Humane Society of Carroll County, 2517 Littlestown Pike, Westminster, MD, 21158, or to the charity of one’s choice.
