Jeannie Elizabeth (Marzec) Baran

April 5, 1956 — September 8, 2013

Jeannie Elizabeth Baran, 57, of Taneytown, died peacefully Sunday, September 8, 2013 at her home.  Born April 5, 1956 in Hanover, PA she was the daughter of Carol Colgan Marzec of Hanover, PA and the late George J. Marzec.  She was the wife of Thomas Max Baran, to whom she was married for nearly 19 years.

Jeannie was a special education teacher in the Southwestern School District of York County, PA.  She was a graduate of Penn State University where she earned a degree in Rehabilitation Education.  She also earned a degree in Guidance Counseling and a Master’s degree in Special Education from McDaniel College in Westminster, MD.  She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Taneytown.  She enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, doll-making, various other needle crafts, and creating stained glass artwork.

Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are brothers, Donald C. Marzec and wife Sue of St. Petersburg, FL, and Dr. Robert P. Marzec of Lafayette, IN; one niece, five nephews, one great-niece, and four great-nephews; the family dog, Lady; and Jeannie’s show-dog, Sophie Rose.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 14 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, MD with Monsignor Martin E. Feild and the Rev. Steven Fauser as co-celebrants.  Inurnment will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Church cemetery.  The family will receive friends in the church garden from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, MD, 21787, Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD, 21157, or Food for the Poor, Inc., 6401 Lyons Rd., Coconut Creek, FL, 33073.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Taneytown, MD.
