Janet Ann Hess, 77, of Taneytown, Maryland, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, January 25, 2019 at home.
Born January 18, 1942 in Thurmont, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Fleet Howard Gall and Anna Mary (Baumgardner) Gall. She was the wife of the late Robert Michael Hess.
Janet was a certified nursing assistant who worked for many years at St. Catherine’s Nursing Home in Emmitsburg. She was a member of Elias Lutheran Church in Emmitsburg. She enjoyed baking, gardening, traveling and reading. She also loved her cats and dogs.
Surviving are children, Anna Marie Perry (Steven M. Perry) of Moore, S.C., Robert Daniel Hess of Frederick, Shelley Lorraine Hess (Brian Smith) of Taneytown, and Joseph Travis Hess (Anna E. Hess) of Fairfield, PA; grandchildren, Dalton M. Perry (Miranda), Dylan J. Perry, Annabelle J. Perry, R. Jacob Hess, Natalie R. Hess, Molly A. Hess, and Adele J. Hess; great-grandchildren, Zack and Averly Hess; nephew, D. Conrad Gall. She will also be missed by cousin, Linda S. Knox, sister-in-law, Alba Bouey, and numerous other family members.
She was predeceased by brothers, Joseph T. Gall and David C. Gall, and by a nephew, Gordon G. Gall.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. at Elias Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 W. North St., Emmitsburg, MD with the Rev. Jon R. Greenstone officiating. Burial will be private at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Emmitsburg.
