Jane Twigg Willis

Jane Twigg Willis, age 100, of Westminster, Maryland died peacefully on Tuesday, October 13, 2015, at Carroll Lutheran Village in Westminster.  Born February 13, 1915 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Henrietta Roop Twigg.  She was the wife of the late Eugene “Stoney” Willis, who died in 1994.

Jane was a 1931 graduate of Hampstead High School and a 1935 graduate of Western Maryland College, now McDaniel College.  She met her future husband, Eugene, there in the early 1930s.  On the occasion of her 100 th birthday Jane received numerous recognitions and citations lauding her accomplishments and associations.  These included the Carroll County Historical Society, the William Winchester Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Carroll County Women’s Club, the Carroll County Arts Council, and the Westminster United Methodist Church.  An avid bridge player, she was proud of her Maryland roots, which date to the 1650s for the Twiggs and 1780s for the Roops.

Surviving are son, John T. Willis and wife Kathy Mangan of Baltimore; brother, Dr. Homer L. Twigg, Jr. of Twiggtown near Cumberland; grandchildren, Karen M. Willis of Mountain View, CA, James T. Willis of Cape Elizabeth, ME, Robert M. Willis of Red Lion, PA, David P. Willis of Timonium, MD, and Amy E. Willis of Baltimore; great-grandchildren, Kate W. Collins, Jane W. Collins, and William Collins, all of Mountain View, CA, and Wyatt Stoney Willis of Timonium, MD; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.  She was predeceased by a son, Dr. Eugene Willis, Jr., who died in 2009; and by sisters Henrietta Murray and Martha Lee Getty.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2015 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster, MD.  Burial will follow in the Westminster Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 15th at the funeral home.
