Jane E. Coale, 96, of Westminster, Maryland, died peacefully on Monday, August 13, 2018 at Transitions Healthcare in Sykesville.
Born August 11, 1922 in Uniontown, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Alvie Russell and Catherine (Bowers) Fleagle. She was predeceased by her husband, Dennis S. Coale, Jr. in 2000.
Jane was a registered nurse and completed her nurses training at Women’s Hospital in Baltimore. She worked as a registered nurse at Miner’s Hospital in Frostburg, Carroll County General Hospital in Westminster, and later at Broward General Hospital in Florida retiring in 1987. She was one of the first R.N.’s hired in 1960 when Carroll County General Hospital opened. She was a life-long member of St. Luke’s (Winters) Lutheran Church in New Windsor. She loved taking long walks using her walking stick from Guam, reading books, and traveling along with her husband all over the U.S.
Surviving are sons, William D. Coale and wife Francie of New Windsor, Thomas S. Coale and wife Karen of Irmo, S.C., and David Steven Coale and wife Sherie of Boynton Beach, FL; brother, William R. Fleagle of Westminster; grandchildren, Dennis, Paul, Edward, Michael, and Kristy Coale, and Catherine Baker; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Emma Catherine Baker.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at St. Luke’s (Winters) Lutheran Church, 701 Green Valley Road, (Rt. 75) in New Windsor with the Rev. Anne C. Durboraw officiating. Private inurnment will be in St. Luke’s Winters Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke’s (Winters) Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 447, New Windsor, MD 21776. Arrangements have been entrusted to the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Westminster.
