James “Jim” Frank Hamer, age 91, of Taneytown, Maryland, died peacefully on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at the Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster.
Born February 15, 1922 in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Jack and Helen (Pingree) Hamer. He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Virginia F. Hamer on August 10, 2013.
Jim was a retired Baltimore County fire fighter with over twenty years at Halethorp Engine House #5. He was a veteran of W.W.II serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the Taneytown Senior Center. Jim was a Baltimore Ravens fan, avid bowler and pool player.
He is survived by his daughters, Ellen F. Styers of Taneytown and Susan F. Hamer and husband Michael DeWitt of Lake Charles, Louisiana; granddaughters, Sherrill Williams and husband Larry, Dawn L. Dow, and Kimberly Vickers; great-grandchildren, Jeremiah L. Carroll and Jordan Byrd.
He was predeceased by sisters, Helen Tarun and Virginia “Ginni” Galloway; and son-in-law, Robert “Bob” Styers.
A Graveside service and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, December 6, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown with Monsignor Martin E. Feild officiating.
