James T. Welty, Sr., 84, of Emmitsburg, Maryland, died peacefully on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Transitions Healthcare Gettysburg, PA.
Born August 14, 1933 in Gettysburg, PA, he was the son of the late Tyson J. and Mary D. (McNair) Welty. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Virginia Ann Welty.
Jim graduated from St. Euphemia’s High School class of 1951, then entered the U.S. Army and served his country during the Korean War as a train engineer. He was a member of the Waynesboro Sportsman’s Club, and a life-member of both the NRA and Duck’s Unlimited. A true outdoorsman Jim loved fishing and hunting.
Surviving him are son, James T. Welty, Jr. of Emmitsburg; daughters, Genevieve Hawkins and husband Paul of Pensacola, FL, and Linda Prince of Williamston, SC; granddaughter, Jessica; brother, Joseph Welty of Emmitsburg; sister, Barbara Martin of Emmitsburg. He was predeceased by siblings, Bernard, Margaret, and Bill Welty.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at New St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Emmitsburg with Rev. James Donohue, C.R. officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the NRA of America, 11250 Waples Mill Rd., Fairfax, VA 22030.
