James Francis Scherr, Jim, 67, residing at Carroll Vista in Taneytown, MD entered into rest Thursday, December 2, 2010 after a valiant battle with bladder cancer. Born August 13, 1943 in Syracuse, NY, Jim was the son of the late Francis Otto Scherr and Janice Arletta Schwantz Scherr. He was the husband of Barbara Anne Ayrest Scherr. Jim received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Syracuse University and did work towards a master’s degree at Eastern Michigan University. He was employed as a senior components engineer in electrical systems at Northrop Grumman in Baltimore, MD. Jim was an avid reader and a member of the Carroll Vista book club, a member of the travel club and a collector of baseball memorabilia. Jim was a passionate and devoted lover of Jesus Christ and of his family. He supported several ministries as well as a child in Bolivia. Prior to moving to Taneytown, Jim participated in many Bible studies, men’s prison ministries, men’s prayer ministries and full gospel businessmen’s fellowship. Survivors in addition to his wife Barbara, are a daughter Alison and son-in-law David Brady of Warren, MI; a son Scott and daughter-in-law Melissa of Mentor, OH; his mother Jan, and brother Tom Scherr and wife Nancy of Buffalo, NY. Stepchildren are a son David Landers and wife Kara of Chevy Chase, MD; a daughter Kathleen Landers and husband Alan Denniston of Silver Spring, MD; a daughter Diana and husband Bill Hodge of Evans, GA. He is survived by ten grand children, a niece Danielle and husband Tom Ohl, and nephews Chris and Matt Scherr. The family will receive visitors Monday, December 6 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home at 136 East Baltimore Street in Taneytown, MD from 2 to 4 pm and from 6 to 8 pm. A funeral service will be held at 11 am Tuesday, December 7th at the Taneytown Baptist Church, 4150 Sells Mill Road, Taneytown, MD with Pastor Gary Buchman officiating. Interment will be at Meadow Branch Cemetery, Westminster, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the following charities:
