James G. Norris, Jr

James G. Norris, Jr., 73, of Hampstead, Maryland, died on Sunday, November 9, 2008 at the Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.
Born November 17, 1934 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late James G. Sr. and Beatrice D. (Blizzard) Norris. He was the husband of 26 years to Lenda “Dolly” (Tingler) Norris.
Jim was a member of Boring United Methodist Church, and had attended Grace United Methodist Church in Hanover, Pa. He was a 1953 graduate of Westminster High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Germany. Upon completing his veteran service, he began work upholstering furniture in his aunt and uncles business, Hock’s Upholstery. Later, in 1981 he began his own business with Dolly, aptly named Jim and Dolly’s Upholstery. They have been named one of Carroll’s Best Upholstery business by readers of the Carroll County Times for many years in a row. Jim loved his fish pond, taking care of birds, cooking, traveling, attending auctions, antique sales, and spending time with his family and close friends, Terry Cole and Randy Williams.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter and spouse, Robin and Miles Morris of Hanover, Pa., siblings, Jack Norris of Baltimore, David Norris of PA., Beatrice Chaney of W. Va., and Esther Crigger of N.C.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Thomas James, Ashlynn Summer, and Jessica Kate Morris, and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 13, 2008 at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster with the Rev. Richard K. Shamer officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Finksburg, Maryland. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the funeral home.
