James Lefaivre

October 27, 1947 — March 21, 2023

Taneytown

James Robert LeFaivre, known as Jim, beloved by those who knew him, passed away peacefully at age 75, on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Born October 27, 1947, to the late Charles Edward and Mary Jane LeFaivre, Jim lived a life full of love, joy and peace.  He was the devoted and adoring husband of Patricia Ann, married on June 1, 1968 for nearly 55 years.  While his family will grieve his loss they are comforted by a life well-lived and stand in faith that they will see him again in Heaven.

A proud Marylander, Jim attended Calvert Hall College, Towson University and Johns Hopkins University, graduating from Johns Hopkins with a Master’s Degree. He began his career teaching children in the Baltimore County school system and founded J.R. LeFaivre Construction Company in 1976, building and remodeling homes, which was taken over by his son Matthew in 2010 and later joined by his son, Drew.  As a strong man of faith, he was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church serving as Minister of the Eucharist for many years. He coached Little League in Taneytown and made an impression on countless young lives.  Jim also served his community on the town’s Planning and Zoning Committee and was very supportive of law enforcement in Taneytown.

Known as “Papa Bear” to his grandchildren, he was a tremendous husband, father and grandfather. He was extremely generous not only to his family but to all in need, always stepping up to help in his community.   Jim loved spending time with his wife, Patty, and they enjoyed road trips on their Harley Davidson, boating off Kent Island and RVing to Key West and Emerald Point, Florida for the winter months.

Jim is survived by his wife, Patty, and his children, Kathryn Reed and husband David of Taneytown, Amy Dolan and husband Joseph of Davidsonville, MD, Matthew LeFaivre, Allison Flythe both of Taneytown and Drew LeFaivre and wife Courtney of Shermans Dale, PA; grandchildren, Rebecca McDonough and husband Ryan, Elizabeth, Hannah and Emma Reed, Ashlyn and Avery Dolan, Stephen, Brendan, Ryan and Aiden LeFaivre, Parker Flythe and Ellie Jane LeFaivre; great-grandchildren Everly and Jaxson McDonough.
