James Monroe Hahn

November 20, 1920 — October 29, 2016

James Monroe Hahn, age 95, resident of Keymar, Maryland, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at St. Catherine’s Nursing Center (St. Josephs Ministries) in Emmitsburg.

Born November 20, 1920 in Tyrone, Maryland, he was the son of the late Luther Jacob Abraham Hahn and Mary Catherine Clingan Hahn.  He was predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Catherine Lenora (Haifleigh) Hahn and is survived by his devoted daughter, Peggy Louise Hahn of Thurmont.

He will be remembered as a loving husband and father, Veteran of World War II, mechanic, and gardener.  James was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown.  He served in the Army Air Corp as an airplane mechanic during World War II, was a truck driver for Hagerstown Storage and Transfer, worked at Cambridge Rubber Company in Taneytown for 21 years in the shipping department and later as a die cutter, and then custodian for Taneytown Bank and Trust Company until his retirement.  He enjoyed working on lawn mower engines, working in his garden, and attending family picnics and reunions.  He also enjoyed spending time with his brother Harry working on antique gas engines.

James was predeceased by 7 brothers, Charles, Luther, Clarence, Raymond, John, Harry, and Paul Hahn; and by 5 sisters, Amanda Hahn, Blanche Devilbiss, Helen Hyde, Mary Myers, and Rhoda Working.  In addition to his daughter, he will be remembered by many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express gratitude to all the caregivers and nurses for the wonderful care given to James at home and at St. Catherine’s Nursing Center.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD with the Rev. Cristopher Frigm officiating.  Interment will follow in Keysville Union Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 38 W. Baltimore St. Taneytown, MD  21787.
