James W. “Jim” Clingan, Sr., 83, of Westminster, Maryland passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 with his loving family at his side.
Born May 16, 1937 in Westminster, Maryland, he was the son of the late David N. Clingan, Sr. and the late Elizabeth Gertrude (Stem) Clingan. He was the loving and devoted husband of 62 years to Elinor “Ellie” (Wieseler) Clingan.
Jim was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving from 1954 to 1957, and then for the Army National Guard from 1958-1978. He retired as a Procurement Officer from the Letterkenny Army Depot after many years of service. He was a life member of St. John Catholic Church in Westminster, Westminster Moose Lodge #1381, VFW Post #467, American Legion Post #31, Fraternal Order of Eagles #4525, and the Knights of Columbus #1393. Jim served St. John’s adoration weekly for many years and was active with the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was an avid golfer and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving in addition to his wife Ellie, are children, Crystal Redding and husband Joe of Alexandria, VA, Kathie Sharp of Longmont, CO, and Jay Clingan and wife Isabelle of Finksburg; grandchildren, Jessica Redding, Bryan Redding, Aleksei Sharp, Vera Sharp, Roman Sharp, Benjamin Clingan, Gabrielle Clingan and Camille Clingan; great-granddaughter, Alexis; great-grandson, Skylar; brother, David Clingan of Westminster; sister, Jean Zepp of Westminster; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Dorothy Shipley and Rosalie Peeling.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 6th from 6-8 p.m. at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster and on Wednesday, April 7th from 10 a.m. until the time of a Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster. Mass will be live streamed for those unable to attend at (https://www.facebook.com/saintjohnwestminster/). Inurnment with military honors will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Jim may be made to St John’s Catholic Church at the above address, or to the Humane Society of Carroll County, 2517 Littlestown Pike, Westminster, MD 21158.
