Jackie Lee “Jack” Bowers, 76, of Taneytown, MD, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 5, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Born February 5, 1941 in Taneytown, he was the son of the late Monroe and Isabel (Rinehart) Bowers. He was the husband of the late Mary Margaret (Kreit) Bowers, to whom he was married for 47 years.
Jack worked in the family business, Bowers Excavating in Kingsdale, PA, throughout his career. He enjoyed hunting wild turkeys and deer, and cutting and splitting firewood for his family. He was a former member of the Honda Gold Wing Club.
Surviving are daughters, Dawn Bowers & fiancé Steve Thompson, Deborah Bowers & fiancé Art Varieur, and Diane Bowers, all of Taneytown; son, Jack Bowers & fiancee Dawn Jeffcoat of Taneytown; sister-in-law, Arlene Bowers of Taneytown; grandchildren, Brandy & Dakota Bowers, Meghan Forney, Connor Bittner, Emily Shelton, and Taylor Garber; step-granddaughter, Breanna Jeffcoat; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved wife Mary, he was predeceased by his brother, Robert Bowers.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD, with Pastor Stan Diehl officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
