Irby Cicero Cole, Jr., 83, of Westminster, Maryland, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, September 3, 2018 at home.
Born on August 25, 1935 in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Irby C. Cole, Sr. and Cecil (Morgan) Cole. He was the husband of 34 years to Lynda M. Cole.
Irby was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves attaining the rank of Sergeant. He started his own lawn service at the age of 10. Irby then worked as a butcher before becoming a survey party chief for Thompson & Grace in Towson. He then went back to school and earned his Masters in Art and Education. Irby became an Art teacher at Dumbarton Middle School in Towson, before becoming a professor of art at both Catonsville Community College and Carroll Community College. He was well loved and respected by his students and fellow faculty members. Irby was also a Past-President of the Carroll County Arts Council as well as an accomplished painter, photographer, and sculptor.
Surviving in addition to his wife are 9 children, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, 1 brother, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of a Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m. at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 91 Willis St., Westminster with funeral celebrant John C. Morrill officiating. Private burial will be held in Wesley United Methodist Church Cemetery in Hampstead.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
