H. Russell Gassman, age 84, of Finksburg, Maryland, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania.
Born September 19, 1929 in Finksburg, Maryland, he was the son of the late George Lackey Gassman and Julia Belle (Russell) Gassman. He was predeceased by his first wife, Grace H. Werner, who died November, 1989; and then married D. Regina Brown Gassman his wife of 22 years.
Mr. Gassman was a graduate of Westminster High School. He worked as an apprentice and Master plumber starting his own business in 1953 and retired in 2010. He was a member of the Clearfield Bible Church. He enjoyed spending time reading his Bible and gardening.
Surviving, in addition to his wife are nieces and nephews, Marilyn M. Gassman Booth and Andrew W. Booth of Salisbury, MD, Loyal Earl Gassman and Connie High Wright Gassman of Colorado Springs, Colorado, LaRue Alice Gassman Lennon and Robert Lennon of Westminster, MD, Robert Theodore Gassman of Dundalk, MD, Lida MaryEllen Gassman of Westminster, MD, Shirley Ann Gassman Leatherman and Robert Glenn Leatherman of Westminster, MD, and Betty Ford and Ty Ford of Towson, MD. A cousin, William Gassman of Sewickley, PA.
He was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Gassman, and by brothers, George Langdon Gassman and Joseph Porterfield Gassman.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 17, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster and from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 18, 2014 at Clearfield Bible Church, with Rev. Ray Newman and Rev. Jimmie L. Schwartz co-officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg, MD.
