Howard Ralph Weant

Howard Ralph Weant, 82, of Taneytown MD died on December 16, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his family.
Born August 6, 1930 in Liberty Township, PA, he was the son of the late Scott Hamilton Weant and Clara Luella (McGlaughlin) Weant and the husband of Kyoko Ellen Weant, together for 63 years.
A 1948 graduate of Emmitsburg High School, he enlisted in the Army in August of that year, joining the Regimental Headquarters Company, 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division of the 8th U.S. Army. He served as a Private First Class in the Korean War, earning a Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star medal, Korean Service medal, Distinquished Unit medal and five bronze campaign stars. He was honorably discharged following his return to the States in 1952. He was a lifetime member of AMVETS. He worked at a number of trades throughout his working years, primarily in the garment industry. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time with his family and working in his extensive garden.
Surviving in addition to his wife are children Linda Passell and husband John, Terry Weant and wife Tammy, Gale Smith, Michiko Szpatura and husband Gary; grandchildren Brendan Passell, Carrie Weant and partner Greg Zepf, Tyler Weant, Troy Smith and Ian Smith; great-grandchildren Caden and Jaxon Zepf; siblings Oneida Hogan, Sirrell (Skip) Weant and wife Joyce, and Roger (Earl) Weant and wife Sylvia. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by one brother, Richard Weant.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 19 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, with funeral services on Thursday, December 20 at 11am at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at Blue Ridge Cemetery in Thurmont, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Messiah United Methodist Church of Taneytown, AMVETS, or the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
