Howard E. Koontz, III, 81, life-long resident of Westminster, Maryland, died peacefully on Friday, August 17, 2018 at the Carroll Hospital Center.
Born August 31, 1936 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Howard E. Koontz, Jr. and Louise Mehring Koontz. He was the loving and devoted husband of 53 years to Nancy (Brilhart) Koontz.
Howard was a graduate of the Westminster High School Class of 1954 and attended 1 year at Mercersburg Academy, and 2 years at the University of MD. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1959-61. He owned and operated Hickory Farms from 1965 to 1988, and following his retirement managed the annual Calendar club kiosk at Christmas in the Mall for 8 years. He was a life-member since 1970 of the Westminster Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. Howard always enjoyed yard work and took great pride in maintaining the family farm.
Surviving in addition to his wife are son, Scott Howard Koontz and wife Amanda of Westminster; grandson, Cody H. Koontz; and sisters, Ann M. Koontz and husband Vincent Smeriglio of Columbia and Carolyn K. Starr and husband Joe of Westminster; and niece Erica Starr.
There will be no public service or visitation. A private family graveside will be held at a later date in Meadow Branch Cemetery in Westminster. Arrangements have been entrusted to the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Westminster.
