Hilda Bell Newman, age 86, of Westminster, Maryland, died on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at her home following a battle with cancer.
Born October 3, 1924 in Westminster, she was the daughter of the late Thomas B. and Mamie Alice (Louge) Gist. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Noah J. Newman.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Silver Run, and was a homemaker for most of her life. She enjoyed sewing.
She was predeceased by a son, Donald L. Wilson, and by sisters, Mamie Shipley, Violet Haines, Mary Kibler, Corrine Feathers, Loretta Retineski, and Ruth Henry; brothers, Thomas, Herbert, and Charles Gist.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 from 6-8 PM at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM from the funeral home, with the Rev. David R. Bare, Carroll Hospice Chaplain officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Silver Run, Maryland.
