Herman “Fred” Thompson, Jr., age 65, of New Windsor, Maryland died on Saturday, January 7, 2012 in University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.
Born June 16, 1946 in Frederick County, MD, he was the son of the late Herman Fred and Juanita F. (Clark) Thompson, Sr.
Fred was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. serving during the Vietnam War. He loved his pet dogs especially “Dutch”. He worked for a time at Lehigh Portland Cement Plant in Union Bridge as a nightshift mechanic, and he then retired in 2011 as a carpenter in the home improvement and remodeling industry.
Surviving are children, Lisa Snyder and husband Randy Cook of Westminster, Tammy McLaren and husband John of Littlestown, PA, and Fred Thompson and wife Brandy of New Windsor; grandchildren, Bruce and Brandon Cook, Heather and Brittany McLaren; siblings H. Tom Thompson of Westminster, Cleveland Thompson of CO., Wonder Fields of Hanover, Mary Gouge of PA., Marion McDaniel of Gettysburg, and Douglas McDaniel of Roanoke.
He was predeceased by siblings, Albert McDaniel, Martha Parks, Regina Thompson, Lenora Condon, Rena Andrews, Hubert T. McDaniel, Rudolph McDaniel, and Virginia Edwards.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster with Deacon Charles E. Barnhart, Jr. officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Meadow Branch Cemetery in Westminster. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the funeral home.
