Herbert Lee Haifley

October 25, 1924 — July 5, 2013

Herbert Lee Haifley, Jr., 88, of Westminster died peacefully Friday, July 5, 2013 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster. Born October 25, 1924 in Carroll County, Maryland he was the son of the late Herbert and Beulah Study Haifley, Sr. He was the husband of Erma Unger Haifley, his wife of 69 years.



Lee was a carpenter by trade and worked with a variety of home-builders over the years. He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Taneytown. He enjoyed singing in the church choir and sang in a variety of churches throughout the past sixty years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family and attending family get-togethers.

Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters, Linda Gronaw and husband Jim, and Nancy Sell and husband Paul, all of Westminster; brothers, John Haifley of Littlestown, PA, and Robert Haifley and wife Mary Ellen of Finksburg; grandchildren, David Sell of Sparks, MD, Richard Sell and wife Angel of Littlestown, PA, and Matthew Gronaw and wife Julia of Hanover, PA; great-grandchildren, Courtney, Elena, Brennan, and Abby; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Roy and Milton Haifley.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2013 at Grace United Church of Christ, 49 W. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD with the Rev. Steven Ostendorf-Snell officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Silver Run, MD. The family will receive friends 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St, Taneytown, MD, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Monday.
