Helene G. Vance, age 87, of Taneytown, Maryland died peacefully on Sunday, May 22, 2011 in Taneytown.

Born February 4, 1924 in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Wladyslawa “Laura” (nee Gutowski) Galczynski. She was the wife of the late Joseph J. Vance, her husband of 54 years.

She was a communicant of both St. Joseph Catholic Churches in Taneytown and Emmitsburg. Helene graduated from Baltimore’s Institute of Notre Dame in 1942 and attended the former Mount St. Agnes College (now Loyola) in Baltimore. She worked in the benefits department at Western Electric for many years. She was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America and was a Mt. St. Agnes/Loyola alumna.

Surviving are sister, Wanda G. Rhodes of Taneytown, and brother, Louis J. Galczynski of Fallston; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was predeceased by siblings, Charles Galczynski, Jeanette Pniewski, Sister Stephanie Galczynski, SSND, Anne Wisniewski, and Henry Galczynski.

Visitation and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the School Sisters of Notre Dame, c/o Villa Assumpta, 6401 N. Charles St., Baltimore, MD, 21212.
