Helena (Hammel) Lightel

Helena Mary Lightel of Rockwall, TX died peacefully on her 99th birthday, Saturday, April 28, 2018 at her daughter’s residence in Monrovia, MD.  Born April 28, 1919 in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late William and Bertha Elizabeth (Thompson) Hammel.  She was the wife of the late Jerome Joseph Lightel.

She is survived by daughters, Joan Scheck and husband Pastor Ray Scheck of Monrovia, MD, and Nancy Lightel of Washington, D.C.; sister, Eleanor MacDonald of Ohio; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by sons, Jerome and Tommy Lightel; daughter, Helena Wilson; brother, William Hammel; and sister, Lilian Foreman.

The family is being assisted by Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Westminster, MD and by Rest Haven Funeral Home in Rockwall, TX.  A funeral mass will be held at 11:00am Thursday, May 10, 2018, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 1305 Damascus Road, Rockwall, TX 75087, with Father George Monaghan officiating.  A gathering for family and friends will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at The Gathering Place at Rest Haven Funeral Home – Rockwall Location -- at a time to be determined.
