Helen Selby

Helen Elizabeth Selby, 96, of Harney, MD passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Transitions Healthcare in Gettysburg, PA.  Born May 11, 1921 in Pleasant Valley, MD, she was the daughter of the late William and Effie Myers.  She was the devoted wife of the late George E. Selby, Sr., who passed away on September 23, 1999.

Helen was an assembly worker at Windsor Shoe Company in Littlestown, PA and Cambridge Rubber Company in Taneytown.  She was a member of St. Matthew’s United Church of Christ in Pleasant Valley.  She enjoyed feeding wild birds, flower gardening and spending time with her family.

She is survived by daughter, Sandra Bowers and husband Robert of Harney; son, George Selby, Jr. and wife Ruth of Harney; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by all of her siblings, 4 brothers, Preston, Thurman, Melvin, and Sterling Myers; 2 sisters, Mary King and Lillie Baker; and a great-grandson, Lucas Bowers.

A private graveside service will be held at Pleasant Valley Cemetery with Deacon Charles E. Barnhart, Jr. officiating.  There will be no visitation or viewing.  Arrangements have been entrusted to MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Taneytown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Helen’s name to the Harney Volunteer Fire Company, 5130 Harney Rd., Taneytown, MD 21787.
