Helen Louise Sanders, age 80, of Taneytown, Maryland died on Friday, June 4, 2010 at the Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.
Born September 30, 1929 in Pikesville, MD she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ruth (Wivell) Hobbs. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Mark A. Sanders in 2008.
She was a dairy farmer’s wife and insurance agent with North American Union Life. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Taneytown where she was a member of the Sodality. Helen was a volunteer in both her church and community. She was a member of the Keysville-Detour Homemakers, card club, and the auxiliary of the V.F.W. in Emmitsburg. She was also an avid BINGO player.
Surviving are daughters, Ruth Baker and husband Ray of Burke, VA, Kate Engel and husband Jack of Taneytown, MD; grandchildren Brian Baker and wife Catherine, Joshua Baker and Yvonne Bui, John Engel and wife Cassandra, Kristen Roach and husband Ryan; great-grandchildren Samantha, Andrew and Jessica Baker, Christa, Tristan, and Sadie Engel, Lexi Cheney, and Addison Roach; brothers Francis Hobbs and wife Ruth of Emmitsburg, MD, James Hobbs and wife Florence of Fairfield, PA, George Hobbs of Taneytown, MD, Donald Hobbs and wife Jeanne of Gettysburg, PA, Patrick Hobbs of Taneytown, MD, Edgar Hobbs and wife Cecelia of Fairfield, PA; sister Margaret McNair of Laurel, MD.
Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter Yvonne E. Sanders; granddaughter Rachel Baker; and brother Charles Hobbs, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, MD, with Monsignor Martin E. Feild as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Taneytown.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 East Baltimore St., Taneytown, where prayers will begin at 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Down’s Syndrome Association of Northern VA, 98 N. Washington St., Falls Church, VA 22046.
