Helen Martha Humbert, 88, resident of Westminster, Maryland, died peacefully on Monday, August 15, 2016 at her home.
Born December 29, 1927 near Wakefield Valley, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Dennis Buffington Smith and Edna Lillian (Mitchell) Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, John William Humbert, Jr. in 1999.
Helen was a graduate of New Windsor High School and an active member of St. Mary’s United Church of Christ in Silver Run. She worked for a time at J.C. Penny in Westminster. She enjoyed traveling, and was a very active volunteer at the Westminster Senior Center, where she enjoyed calling and playing BINGO and cards with family and friends. She was a member of Westminster Moose and the American Legion Westminster Post 31.
Surviving her are son, John William Humbert, III and wife Wanda of Westminster; daughter, Sue Martha Buchheister and husband John of Homosassa, FL; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brothers, Dennis Mitchell Smith and John Elmer Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 91 Willis St., Westminster, MD with Rev. Eric Marstellar officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Silver Run. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
