Helen (Schaeffer) Haines

Helen Louise Haines, 76, of Taneytown, passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at The Gardens of Gettysburg in Gettysburg, PA.  Born September 18, 1945 in Westminster, MD, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Catherine (Staub) Schaeffer.

Helen was an Office Manager at Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) in Westminster for more than 30 years.  She also worked at Diane’s Hallmark Store in Taneytown for over 20 years.  She was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Taneytown.  Helen loved visiting Disney World in Florida and spending time with her grandchildren.  She was widely known for her delicious red velvet cakes.

Surviving are her daughter, Penny Storey and husband David of Hanover, PA; son, Rick Haines and wife Jennifer of Taneytown; siblings, Leroy Schaeffer and wife Carol of Florida, Bob Schaeffer and wife Bonnie of Maine, and Shirley Rill and husband George of Hampstead; brother-in-law, Dennis Yingling of Manchester; and 4 grandchildren, Corbin, Justin, Brendan, and Camryn.  She is also remembered by her former spouse, Dennis Haines.  She was predeceased by a son, who died at birth; a brother, who died in childhood; and a sister, Linda Yingling.

A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD with Pastor Scott Sager officiating.  The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until the time of the service.  Burial at St. Luke’s (Winter’s) Lutheran Cemetery will be private.
