Harvey Hatten, 87, of Westminster died Friday, August 29, 2008 at Lorien Nursing Center in Taneytown.
Born August 19, 1921 in Sykes, Louisiana, he was the son of the late George Washington and Dottie Lee Pelcher Hatten. He was the husband of the late Pauline O’Dell Hatten, his wife of 47 years. She preceded him in death in 1995.
He served in the United States Army retiring after 26 years. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War and spent time as a prisoner of war in Germany. Upon retiring from the military, he owned and operated Sgt. Hatten’s Carryout in Dundalk, MD for many years. He then worked for the U.S. Customs Service, retiring in 1974. He spent many of his remaining years farming.
Surviving are son Edward P. Hatten of Cumberland Furnace Tennessee; daughter Heide Lee Hatten of Westminster; and grandchildren Travis Hatten of Panama City, Florida and McKenzie Cockayne of Alexandria. Virginia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by thirteen brothers and sisters, Curtis Hatten, Evie Stearnes, Yancy Hatten, Randolph Hatten, Charlie Ray Hatten, Leroy Hatten, Lessie Dearmon, Jake Hatten, Dee Hatten, Henry Hatten, Oneal Hatten, Estelle Taylor and Iva Hatten.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M on Tuesday September 2 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, Taneytown.
A funeral service will be help at 11 A.M on Wednesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Floyd Westbrook of The Gathering Place officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
