Harold “Jack” Lewis Shaffer, age 77, of Westminster, Maryland, died on Friday, October 2, 2009 at his home in Westminster.
Born September 11, 1932 in Westminster, he was the son of the late Paul Randolph and Rachel Margaret (Smith) Shaffer. He was the husband of 56 years of Alice Arlene (McGraw) Shaffer.
Jack was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in Germany from 1953-1955. He worked at The United Company for 38 years, and retired from McConnell Manufacturing Company. He was a member of the American Legion Post 31 and a life member of the VFW Post 467 in Westminster. He was proud to share a 9/11 birthday with his oldest grandson Jason.
Surviving in addition to his wife are children; Gail Lynn Martin of Westminster, and Jeffrey Scott Shaffer and wife Linda of Taneytown; grandsons, Jason A., R. Daniel, and Andrew S. Martin, Bryan S. Shaffer, Todd Bowers, Allen E. and Steven E. McElroy; 13 great grandchildren; brothers, Daniel L. Shaffer, Sr. and Floyd K. Shaffer both of Westminster. Also surviving are a son-in-law, Patrick Martin of Westminster, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sisters, Joan Arnsberger, Janet Souers, and twin sister Marian Thomas.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis Street, Westminster, with the Rev. Richard K. Shamer officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Keysville Union Cemetery in Keymar. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the funeral home.
