Robert Gregory "Greg" Van Hook, 50, of Carroll Valley, Pennsylvania died peacefully and unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, April 25, 2015 with his wife and pup "Buckshot" at his side.  Born February 1, 1965, he was the oldest son of Robert Everett and Fonda June Vault Van Hook of Somerset, Kentucky.  Greg was the beloved husband and soul mate of his wife Judy Ann McGraw Van Hook.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are children Ryan Van Hook and fiancee Lisa of Front Royal, VA, Andrew "Drew" Van Hook and fiancee Holli of Nokesville, VA, Robert "Tyler" Van Hook and wife Maggie of Wilmington, SC, and Daniel "Danny" Lingg of Thurmont, MD; brother Jeff Van Hook and wife Jill of Louisville, KY; grandchildren Landon "LM" Van Hook and Jackson "JB" Van Hook; mother-in-law Barbara McGraw and brother-in-law Bob McGraw of Emmitsburg; specially beloved uncle and aunt Howard and Betty Lou Inabnitt of Brownsville, IN; and nieces Brittany Baxter and husband Brandon, and Emma Van Hook.  He is also remembered by special friends Beau, Angie, Daniel, Nate, Myles, Eli, John, Darryl & Kim, George, and Russell, who served as his best man.

Greg served in the United States Army with distinction, and was disabled as he grew older by the injuries he sustained during his years in the military.  Upon completion of his military service he became a commercial sales representative for Fannin Petroleum in Alexandria and E.E. Wine in Manassass, Virginia.  A brilliant mind and thirst for knowledge took him far from home, leading him to earn a degree in Political Science at the University of Hawaii following graduation from Pulaski County High School in Kentucky.  He later earned a degree in Business Administration from Corllins University, and eventually, a degree in Medical Science from joint studies at Shepherd University in West Virginia and the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland.  Greg passed his medical boards with flying colors.

Greg was a country boy at heart, having been raised on the family farm outside of Somerset.  He raised quarter horses, cattle and sons on his farm in Nokesville, Virginia.  Later he moved to Shepherdstown, WV to further his education in medicine.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching television.  Westerns, Law & Order, and Fox News were among his favorite programs.  Greg loved country music, his '93 Chevy truck that he designed and named "Big Red", his dog "Buckshot", the Kentucky Wildcats and the Washington Redskins.  Greg was a family oriented man who enjoyed his many friends and family members.  He touched the lives of all he met.  Greg and his wife Judy were inseparable, preferring to spend their time together, cooking, walking, and talking in front of the fireplace.  His cooking specialties were breakfast, deer loin, or baked spaghetti.  He loved surprising his wife with breakfast in bed.  He played the guitar for her in the evenings.  His passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but Greg will always be remembered with respect and love.

The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2015 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main Street, Emmitsburg, MD.  A funeral service to celebrate Greg's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 2 at the funeral home.  Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Wounded Warriors Project, 4899 Belfort Rd, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL, 32256.
