Grant William Abrahams, Sr., 85, of Emmitsburg, Maryland, died peacefully on Monday, May 7, 2018 at Genesis The Gettysburg Center in Gettysburg, PA.
Born December 20, 1932 in Emmitsburg, he was the son of the late Winfield James and Minnie (Springer) Abrahams. He was the husband of the late Margaret Virginia (Curtis) Abrahams, who predeceased him in 2009.
Grant was retired from Mt. St. Mary’s University maintenance department after 22 years of service. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was of the Catholic faith. The family wishes to express thanks to the nurses and staff of The Gettysburg Center for the wonderful care their father received.
Surviving are children, Grant “Jim” W. Abrahams, Jr. of Emmitsburg, Gwenda L. Wolfe and husband George of Smithburg, Elsie C. Dewalt and husband Richard of Emmitsburg, Margaret V. Eyler of Fairfield, PA, Linda K. Lancaster and husband Mearl of Greencastle, PA, Joyce A. Little and husband Chuck of Littlestown, PA, and Cathy M. Lewis of Bedford, PA; grandchildren, Shannon Tipton, Randy Abrahams, Nikki Abrahams, Philip Lee Fox, Jr., Travis William Fox, Jennifer Pfaff, Lori Fox, Richard Brown, John Cullison, III, Brian Scott Myers, Eric Little, William Allan Lewis, and Abigale Lewis; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Elsie Kline of Gettysburg; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a grandson, Michael Dewalt, and by brother, Harry Abrahams.
A prayer service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, May 11, 2018 at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 210 West Main St., Emmitsburg, MD, with the Rev. Charles F. Krieg, C.M. officiating. Interment will follow in Emmitsburg Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 10th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
