Gloria M. Garvin, age 78, of Manchester died peacefully Monday January 7, 2013 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster. She was born November 26, 1934 in Elkridge, Maryland daughter of the late Henry and Margaret Madeline (Carter) Kunz. She was the wife of Arthur W. Garvin, Jr., her husband of 22 years.
She worked for 25 years as a tariff writer at CSX Railroad. Gloria was a member of Church of the Open Door, where she was active in the Kings Messenger Sunday School Class, and the Soul Winners program. She loved the Lord and enjoyed cooking, shopping, traveling, and spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by children Joseph Sullivan and wife, Susan of Sykesville, Kelly Nickey and husband, Joseph of Glen Burnie; step-daughter, Angela Garvin of NC, sisters, Kathleen Armstrong of Catonsville and Joanne Burkett of Glen Burnie; grandsons, Eric Nickey and wife Kayla and Justin Nickey; step-grandchildren, Elizabeth Haight, Candace Nunemaker and Paige Karanovich.
She was predeceased by siblings, Eugene and Garrett Kunz and stepson, Gregory A. Garvin.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Friday, January 11, 2013 at Church of the Open Door, 550 Baltimore Blvd., Westminster with Rev. Rick Holbrook officiating.
Interment will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday, 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis Street, Westminster and Friday 10:00 am until time of service at the church.
