Glenn Ellery Murphy, Sr.

October 23, 1934 — April 4, 2014

Glenn Ellery Murphy, Sr., 79, of Littlestown, PA died peacefully Friday, April 4, 2014 at Lorien Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taneytown.  Born October 23, 1934 in Dover, OH, he was the son of the late Fred and Ruby Epsmansheet Murphy.  He was the husband of Treva Reinaman Murphy to whom he was married for 55 years.

Glenn served for twenty years in the United States Navy before joining the United States Postal Service where he served for twenty-two years.  He was a member of Hesson Snider American Legion Post 120 in Taneytown and VFW Post 6918 in Harney.  Glenn served as sexton of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown since 1996.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching NASCAR races.  He was a fan of driver Jeff Gordon.

Surviving in addition to his wife are son, Glenn Murphy, Jr. of Littlestown, PA; daughter, Tammy Eichelberger and husband David “Ike” of Thurmont; sister, Maxine Blacka and husband Richard of Ohio; brother, Kenneth Murphy and wife Carol of Ohio; step-sister, Doris Jarvis of Arizona; grandchildren, Amber and Kristen Eichelberger; and several nieces and nephews.

In the same spirit of his life of community service, in death Glenn chose to donate his body for the purpose of medical and scientific research.  A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 38 W. Baltimore St, Taneytown, MD with the Rev. Nicholas Brie and the Rev. Stacy Marsh co-officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 38 W. Baltimore St, Taneytown, MD, 21787.
