Geraldene “Gerry” Robinson, 74, of Taneytown, MD, beloved sister, mother, grandmother, friend and wife of the late Thomas “Fred” Robinson, died after a sudden and brief illness Monday evening, March 16, 2009 at the Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA.
Born Nov. 18, 1934 in Hazel, VA, to Hurley and Mary Hill, Gerry lived much of her adult life in the metropolitan Baltimore area employed as an insurance professional with CIGNA, Baltimore, MD. She and her husband Fred were active, 30-year members of the First Baptist Church of Baltimore. In retirement, she volunteered tirelessly with her church, Messiah United Methodist Church, Taneytown, MD as a Sunday school teacher, member of the Mission Committee, and administrative assistant producing church communications and coordinating regular church events. With her husband, she also developed and administered a church-affiliated After School Club—the only program of its kind serving children and their families in the Taneytown area. She spent additional volunteer time with Caring and Sharing Ministries of Taneytown (responsible for Carpenter’s Table meals served at area churches) and the Carroll County Food Sunday Program.
Gerry is survived by her three children, Thomas G. Robinson, Philadelphia, PA, Karen R. Kinney, Kearneysville, W. VA, and Christopher H. Robinson, Mechanicsburg, PA; three sisters, Shirley Lambert, Abingdon, VA, Linda Gallagher, Amelia, VA , and Virginia Smartt, Chattanooga, TN; 10 grandchildren, Olivia, Samantha, Jordyn, Jared, and Jacob Robinson, Jessica and Justin Kinney, and Maddie, Ben, and Sarah Miller; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews and those related by marriage.
Gerry lived her life “putting everything in the good Lord’s hands,” and being good to everyone who crossed her path. After undergoing a successful kidney transplant 25 years ago, she told many that she considered each day a gift feeling very blessed to see her children grow into adulthood and to be part of her grandchildren’s lives.
