Gerald "Butch" S. Miller

Gerald “Butch” S. Miller, 78, of Emmitsburg, Maryland, died on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at his home.

Born July 27, 1939 in Emmitsburg, Md. he was the son of the late Herbert J. and Mary B. (Topper) Miller.  He was the husband of the late Catherine Elizabeth (Gebhart) Miller.

Butch was the owner and cook at the Hillside Inn outside of Emmitsburg for many years.  He was a graduate of St. Joseph’s High School in Emmitsburg and a veteran of the U.S. Army.  He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Emmitsburg, Emmitsburg American Legion Post #121, Harney V.F.W., South Mountain Rod and Gun Club, Blue Ridge Sportsman Association, and the North Carolina Beach Buggy Association.  Butch was an avid fisherman, hunter, and outdoorsman.  He especially enjoyed fishing alongside his grandchildren, watching them play sports, and spending time with them.

Surviving are daughter, Karen Kay Manning and husband David of Fairfield, Pa.; step-daughters, Beverly Ott and Carolyn Rippeon both of Fairfield, Pa.; grandchildren, Jared, Braden and Rylan Manning; companion, Michele Busbey of Emmitsburg; siblings, Dora “Skip” Knott and husband Joe, Eugene Miller and wife Pat, Patrick Miller and wife Ruth Ann all of Thurmont, R. Louise Orndorff and husband Clarence of Emmitsburg; and many nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by siblings, Regis Miller, Mary Genevieve Miller, Adele Jensen, Anna “Jo” Little, Donald Miller, Sr., James Miller, Bernard “Duke” Miller, Theresa Jensen, Irene “Dink” Wantz, Kenneth Miller, and Mary Topper; and special friend Billy Wilson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 47 DePaul St., Emmitsburg with the Rev. Charles F. Krieg, C.M. as celebrant.  Burial will follow in the New St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Emmitsburg.  The family will receive friends on Monday February 5th from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Dr., Memphis, TN, 38105 or the Wounded Warriors Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL, 32256.
