Lieutenant Colonel George William Slade II, US Army Reserve, Retired
George William "Bill" Slade II, 87, of Westminster, passed away Friday, March 15, 2024, at Atlee Hill. Born July 16, 1936 in Chelsea, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late George William and Elizabeth (Middleton) Slade. He was the loving husband of Betty DePalmer Slade.
Bill graduated from Western Maryland College with a Bachelor of Arts in History. In addition to serving in the US Army Reserve, he spent his early career as a high school teacher and later retired from the Department of Defense. He was an avid reader and numismatist and was known among his family for his skill at Jeopardy.
Surviving in addition to his wife are sons George William (Fulvia) Slade, Jonathan (Novia) Slade, Robert (Marisa) Slade, and James (Maricruz) Slade; stepdaughters Susan Fowble and Lynne (John) Sneeringer; stepson Steven (Sheila) DePalmer; thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Joan S. Minor.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 1 p.m. at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis Street, Westminster, MD 21157.
Interment will be private.
