George Raymond Sauble, Jr

George Raymond Sauble, Jr., age 79, of Taneytown, Md., died on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster.
Born February 1, 1929 in Taneytown, Md., he was the son of the late George Raymond Sauble and Ruth Estelle Koons Sauble. He was the husband of Doris E. Swartzbaugh Sauble, his wife of 58 years.
He was a graduate of Taneytown High School class of 1946. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and was discharged in 1948. He graduated from Gettysburg College in 1951 with a degree in mathematics.
He worked at the First National Bank in Taneytown, Black & Decker in Hampstead and Towson. In 1955, he moved to Anne Arundel County and started working at Westinghouse Air Arm Division. In 1961, he was employed by NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. He worked on Ground Systems in support of scientific satellites, one of which was the Orbiting Astronomical Observatory which was the first telescope in space. He retired from Goddard in September 1984. In December 1984, he was employed by OAO Corporation in Greenbelt as manager of their Computer System retiring in 1996. He and his wife returned to Carroll County in 1994.
He joined the Taneytown Lions Club in 1994 and was president 1999-2000. In September 2005, he received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award and in December 2007 the Progressive Melvin Jones Award. He had thirteen (13) continuous years of perfect attendance.
As a boy, he was a member of the Taneytown Boy Scouts. This interest carried over to adulthood. In Anne Arundel Co., he served a number of years on committees for the Cub and Boy Scouts where his sons were involved. He also served as an Assistant District Commissioner for the Baltimore Area Council.
He enjoyed going to Ocean City with his family staying at their condo, traveling, and going on cruises, being with grandchildren, playing cards, and photography. He enjoyed the Lions activities helping with the twice yearly breakfasts, attending conventions, and fellowship of the members. His hobby was working with flowers and landscaping.
Surviving in addition to his wife are son and daughter-in-law George and Kathy Sauble of Linthicum Heights, Md., son and daughter-in-law Scott and Sharon Sauble of East Liverpool, Ohio, grandchildren Kristin Hoffensetz and husband Peter of Australia, Janis Birch and husband Mac of Ocean City, N.J., Scott Sauble II of Mays Landing, N.J., Justin Sauble of East Liverpool, Ohio, great-grandsons Adam and Andrew Hoffensetz of Australia, brother and sister-in-law Edward and Beatrice Sauble, Sr. of Fairfield, Pa., sister Lorraine Wilson of Taneytown, Md., and nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 38 W. Baltimore St., Taneytown, with his pastor, The Reverend Nicholas Brie officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery, Taneytown. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Friday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, where the Taneytown Lions Club will hold a Memorial service at 7:30 PM, and again on Saturday from 9 AM until the time of service at the church.
