George W. Reaver age 83,of Taneytown, Maryland died peacefully on Saturday April 5, 2014 at his home with his family beside him. Born May 20, 1930 in Taneytown, he was the son of the late Charles B. and Carrie V. Dutterer Reaver. He was the husband of beloved wife Nina L. Shernan Reaver to whom he was married for 58 years.
He served in the Army from 1947 to 1952 as a military police officer in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, he co–partnered with his two brothers with Chas. B. Reaver. He enjoyed playing cards and shooting pool, as well as playing with his grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife are children Melody S. Reaver Higginbotham of St. Louis. MO and George C. Reaver of Finksburg, MD. Grandchildren, Kent Jr., Erin, Kacey Higginbotham Kell, her husband Matthew Kell ,Frankie and his wife Lindsay Reaver and Kelsey Reaver, great grandchild Nicholas Conway. Also surviving are sisters Helen McAvoy and husband John of Riverside, CA, Mabel Johnson, C. June Ripley and husband Allen all of Keymar, MD and, brother Frank Reaver of Laurel, MD.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 7, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown MD. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday April 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Steven Ostendorf officiating.
Interment with military honors will be immediately after the service at the Evergreen Cemetery in Gettysburg, PA.  Serving as pallbearers will be, Frank Reaver, Kent Higginbotham, Jr., Larry Markle, Randy Ripley, Jeff Bruchey and Chad Smith; honorary pallbearers will be, Allen Greybill, Kenneth Crouse, Darren Weyforth, Matthew Kell, Greg Conway, and Scott Markle.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to either the Grace United Church of Christ, 49 W. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD 21787 or Taneytown Volunteer Fire Company,39 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD 21787.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Taneytown, MD.
