George H. Limparis

George Harry Limparis, 91, of Emmitsburg died peacefully Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at his residence. Born January 24, 1922 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he was the son of the late Hericles Limparis Limparopoulos and Sophia Wojiack Limparopoulos.

George was a cabinet maker. He worked at D.C. General Hospital and for the United States Government. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army in Europe from 1943 to 1945. He later served in the United States Air Force's Air National Guard in Kansas where he attained the rank of Master Sergeant. He retired from the Air Force after 27 years of service. He was a life-long member of the American Legion, VFW and DAV. He enjoyed dancing, collecting coins and stamps, listening to music, reading the Bible, traveling (especially to Costa Rica,) and spending time with his family.

Surviving are daughters, Isabel Lynnette Turman McDermott and husband, Charles of Gainesville, VA, and Carmen Limparis of Emmitsburg; sisters, Helen Hankey of Severn, Eugenia “Vee” Curtin of FL, Jenny Jarboe of Silver Spring, and Mary Jo Beckley and Georgia Matthews, both of Littleton, CO; brother, Jack Limparis and wife Tish of Frederick; grandson, Daniel Ray Turman, Sr. and former wife Kimbre of VA; great-grandchildren, Taleeya, Daniel Jr., Nakeya, and Joseph Daniel Turman; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Patsy Buchanan, and brothers, Johnny, Gus, and Nick Limparis.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 8 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD with Pastor Cecil Bray of Immanuel's Church in Silver Spring officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 12 at Truro Church, 10520 Main St., Fairfax, VA with Pastor Joseph Acanfora of the Church of the Apostles in Oakton, VA officiating. The doors will be open an hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
