George J. Kreit, age 67, of Taneytown died Sunday, January 8, 2012 at University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore. Born November 17, 1944 in Baltimore County, he was the son of the late George A. and Dorothy Tine Kreit. He was the life-companion of Elaine Cassidy.
He was owner/operator of Kreit Trucking and manager for twenty years with Cassidy Trucking, Inc. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Hesson-Snyder American Legion Post 120 in Taneytown. He enjoyed traveling, trucks, tinkering with all sorts of things and spending time with his family and his many friends. George loved life.
Surviving in addition to his life-companion, Elaine, are sons David Kreit and wife, Kelly, of Taneytown and Richard Kreit and wife, Kimberly, of Great Falls, Montana; step-son, John Cassidy and wife, Dawn, of Hedgesville, WV; sister, Mary Bowers and husband, Jack, of Taneytown; brothers, John Kreit and fiancé, Rolanda “Ro” Morningstar of Taneytown, Dennis Kreit and wife, Donna, of Plant City, FL, & Joseph Kreit and wife, Helen of Taneytown; grandchildren, George, Kasey & Joshua Kreit; step-grandchildren, Johnny, Ean & Alicia Cassidy; great-grandson, Dillon Kreit; aunt & uncle, Dorothy and Joe Kreit of White Marsh; numerous nieces & nephews; and former spouse & friend, Suzanne Kreit of Taneytown.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 12 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, MD with Monsignor Martin E. Feild as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Church cemetery. The family will receive friends 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD.
